4th International SCBWI Australia & New Zealand Conference
The 4th International SCBWI Australia & New Zealand Conference will again be held at the Hughenden Boutique Hotel in Woollahra in Sydney from the 29th June to 2nd July 2012. Conference details are as follows.
The SCBWI Conference will open with the illustrator portfolio exhibition displaying delegates' talent to publishers, art directors, media and the children's book industry. There will be panels and insights into publishing today by the major Australian publishers, literary agents and Jill Corcoran from the Herman Agency New York. Sessions will cover picture book, historical fictions, children's, young adult, the educational market by award winning authors and illustrators including Sally Murphy, Frané Lessac, Corinne Fenton, Hazel Edwards. There is a hands-on social media workshop for everyone and opportunities to network with authors and illustrators from Auckland to Fremantle and talk to your SCBWI representatives who will be there – Chris Cheng, Sarah Davis, Corinne Fenton, Frances Plumpton, Deborah Abela, Sheryl Gwyther, Dianne Wolfer, Meg McInlay, Dianne Wolfer, Frané Lessac and Susanne Gervay.
Working with the NSW Writers Centre, the Saturday programme will be on the Rozelle Grounds.
Saturday night on the baby grand will be a 'let-your-hair' down night. There's a swap-and-sell session for your books and three book launches – Belinda Murrell (NSW), Catriona Hoy (Victoria) and Pamela Rushby (Queensland).
The inaugural masterclass day on July 2nd offers hands-on creative craft sessions for both illustrators and authors by leading authors and illustrators and an exciting opportunity to take the time to think about and work on your craft.
The manuscript critiques will be assessed by Jill Corcoran, Zoe Walton, Lisa Berryman, Sue Whiting and commissioning agents and publishers.
The most important part of this biennial conference is that friendships are made and renewed and networks cemented throughout Australian and New Zealand.
